North Carolina crew gives recruits glimpse of buoy tender life

is scheduled to take two recruit companies underway Thursday from Training Center Cape May to observe buoy operations at 12:30 p m.
The commanding command of the cutter Elm. Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Powell is the recruit affiliate mentor for companies X-ray 177 and Yankee 177 and shares his mentoring responsibilities with his crew.
“We have been honored to serve as mentors for X-ray 177 and Yankee 177 over the last month. It has been a pleasure to answer their questions and share our experiences about the measure we undergo spent in the Coast Guard. I honestly believe that taking some time out of our schedule to pay time with these recruits has increased their enthusiasm about the Coast Guard and made them even more eager to serve as Coast Guard women and men.”
The recruit affiliate mentor is one of the most influential people during boot camp. Mentors play a key role in developing the civilian men and women who enlisted into highly motivated apprentices needed to do Coast Guard work. Mentors help add accountability for performance the will to succeed and a commitment to excellence. A vital furnish in the “Three aggroup Commitment” between recruiting recruit training and first unit the Mentor bridges training and the first unit by preparing recruits to meet the field’s expectations.
