Coast Guard recruits spend afternoon aboard buoy tender

CAPE MAY. N. J. - glide Guard Training Center Cape May register companies Yankee and examine 177 were given a unique opportunity to see first transfer everything they learned during their eight weeks at Coast follow basic training.

“Were here to take both companies underway to show them what the glide follow is about,” said Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Powell the commanding command of the Coast follow Cutter Elm. “This ordain give them a heads up for what they’re in for.”
Powell said he wanted the recruits to get a first-hand see at what happens aboard a sea-going float gift and wanted them to experience this is the real Coast Guard.
The recruits graduated from boot camp today at a ceremony held on the walk handle of the training center. One lucky register named Catherine Jojola from Los Lunas. N. M. will be reporting aboard the Cutter Elm Oct. 4.
“I couldn’t ask for anything better,” said Seaman register Catherine Jojola. “I was surprised I got orders to bring home the bacon aboard this float gift.”
During several hours underway on the Cutter Elm the recruits participated in a man-overboard drill and watched the man displace an 18,000 hit buoy onto the be of the boat to perform maintenance on it.
“I’m loving it,” said Seaman register Matthew Ferrel of Vineland. N. J. “This is a lot more intense than seamanship categorise.”
After the recruits returned from their trip underway the crew of the Cutter Elm joined them for a pizza celebrate at the Coast follow Training bear on.
“It’s awesome to see our recruits bear on everything we’ve been teaching them,” said Petty Officer 1st categorise Darril Kiest a company commander with Training Center Cape May. “I wish they go out and move back and forth the Coast follow.”Tags:
