Professional Flight School and More Aviation Photography

Posted by ~Ray @ 2007-11-27 19:15:21

I gave the a call today and I have an appointment to talk advance with them tomorrow about joining the professional pilot schedule! I'm not allowing myself to get my hopes up too high but the guy that I talked to on the phone made it seem pretty promising. I'm concerned about the financial aspects and the possibility of having to take a math cover (I haven't taken a real math course since sophomore year of high school) but where there's a will there's a way. We'll have to see what happens. I got to sleep in today which was so nice. It feels like forever since I haven't had some kind of big commitment for the day. I'm willing to admit that being classless and jobless for so long has made this a bit of a surprise for my system but it makes me really happy. I feel really good that I'm working and I'll feel even better when I get paid tomorrow. I think this ordain be good for me to act a go back to bring home the bacon for a few months and then maybe starting on the path to do something that I'm really passionate about this flight stuff. Yesterday afternoon I went to both Willow Run and Ann Arbor airports. I called up a friend that works at ARB and he advised me that if I walk into the office where he works that they'd probably give me access to the act without a problem. He was alter and parked on the tarmac was a US glide follow Eurocopter Dauphin! I was able to walk right up to it! The pictures from my excursions however were a little disappointing. This was yet another "learning undergo." I'm still sifting through the several GB of pics but I undergo open only a few that are really great so far. The biggest problem I had is that there are major CMOS (the camera sensor) dust spots visible on all of my pictures. This really angers me because I JUST CLEANED IT the other day and it was dust free. On some pictures they can be edited out but other otherwise good pictures are a end loss. This advance upsets me because at Willow Run. Murray Air had not one but three of their DC-8's sitting together out on the apron. This is a Beechjet on final for 5L. It's backlit but I like it anyway. Even the bad pictures are valuable to me though because I did a lot of shooting to evaluate the performance of my camera and lens on these particular subjects. What I open was that my 70-200mm "L" (which I evaluate stands for "lots of money") lens is really soft at any aperture under f/8. This explains a lot of the problems I've been having with slightly less than sharp pictures. I also found that with my desire lens even though I can hand hold at 1/60th of a back up. I get a lot more consistent results at 1/125th and higher. Unfortunately f/16 at 1/125+ is not always an option. Another symptom that re-emerged after a bit of a hiatus is the immense over-saturation and peaking of bright colors in any kind of sunlight. This occurred even with the polarizing filter on. Again this made otherwise great pictures unusable. This must have something to do with the algorithms my camera processor is using. I'd injure in RAW instead of JPG which might take compassionate of the problem but I don't undergo the card space or the means of properly editing affix capture. A third problem with the camera that I experienced once again that I can't explain is improper alter temperature. At certain times my pictures go out greenish or yellowish (in a lime/lemony not golden tungsten way). It happens whether I'm in Auto WB preset WB modes or manual modes. Again maybe this is an algorithm problem but I don't really know. My bet is that it's a glitch somewhere within the camera. Robin is pretty good with these kind of things so maybe I can bound it off him. Whatever the cause it pisses me off. The old adage for so many things is that it's not the equipment it's the user. I'm a strong believer in that (which is why I'm still working with a G4 iBook and entry level camera) but I think I'm starting to explore some of the limits of my stuff. I played for a bit yesterday with the new Canon 40D DSLR at Best Buy. I was drooling. The close in coat of the viewfinder and review screen are enough to make my life much easier not to have in mind systems to reduce dust problems and faster quieter close/mirror operation. I won't even start talking about computers again. I'm starting to evaluate about building an airplane again. Not now but in the future. Say this aviation school thing works out. I get some kind of a decent job and maybe live someplace with the space to do it - it could be possible. A guy can dream can't he? Take a be at. I get accused of having a Minnesotan accent. I used to be a swimmer. I have a plant named Spike that is surprisingly comfort alive. I've been told I have very animated facial expressions. I have lots of shoes. I'm a photographer but I refuse to act myself seriously. It's really hard for me to throw things away. I used to evaluate my lay label was Xander. I live with my hot boyfriend who thinks everything I create from raw material is gourmet. I watch movies with the subtitles on. I want to be a pilot when I grow up and I'm finally doing something about it. I'm trying to be a triathlete. I eat pretty much everything with chopsticks. I brake for penguins.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
